THE ALYS FOUNDATION ‘FUN RUN’ RAISES $60,000 FOR AUTISM

Proceeds to benefit local, state and national autism organizations

5k 2014 Results

Ready, set, help! More than 400 runners of all ages raced to the end of summer at the third annual Alys Beach 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run.

The annual event is sponsored by The Alys Foundation, which also produces the 30A Wine Festival (March 6-8, 2015) and Digital Graffiti (June 4-6, 2015).

The 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run became town tours of sorts leading runners down roadways, pathways and nature trails on a sunny late summer morning throughout the beautiful community of Alys Beach in South Walton.

After the races, racers relaxed at a post-race awards party featuring Grayton Beer, Vivo Spa Salon, Piper’s and 30A Pop Stop including a raffle and music by Shane from Rock the House. Little racers cooled off in the Fountain and chilled on the grass in the Amphitheater. Many returned later in the evening to enjoy a live concert and fireworks display.

This year’s race was held in honor of Jon Starkey, who is the son of an Alys Beach homeowner, who has autism. Starkey, 40, designed the artwork showcased on the official race t-shirts.

This event was made possible for The Alys Foundation with generous support from all our sponsors; including, EBSCO Industries, Inc., Comer Companies, LLC, the Starkey Family, the Frist Family and Galvas Construction, Inc.

Proceeds from the event raised $60,000. The Alys Foundation provided $20,000 each in the name of the Starkey Family to Autism Society Emerald Coast, Autism Society Georgia and Autism Society of America, the nation’s leading grassroots autism organization.

“It is such a privilege and an honor to be a part of something special where so many people are pulling together for a common cause. A very deep thank you to everyone who made it possible,” said Jason L. Comer, Director of The Alys Foundation.

TICKET SALES FOR THE 7th ANNUAL DIGITAL GRAFFITI FESTIVAL

The world’s first outdoor projection art festival expands to three nights June 5–7, 2014

Alys Beach, Fla.—(March 17, 2014) Tickets for the Seventh Annual Digital Graffiti Festival, Alys Beach’s signature annual event, to be held June 5–7, 2014 will be placed on sale on Monday, March 24, 2014.

During what has become a weekend extravaganza event, the community of Alys Beach located on Scenic Highway 30A on the Gulf of Mexico in Northwest Florida, opens its doors, courtyards, and pedestrian paths to groundbreaking digital artists from around the globe. At this innovative, one-of-a-kind live art exhibit, the iconic white walls of Alys Beach are transformed into “blank canvas” screens onto which various forms of newly created digital art is projected.

For 2014, the world’s first outdoor projection art festival has expanded adding a new offering on Thursday night — an exclusive behind-the-scenes, informative tour lead by DG 2014 Curator Brett Phares beginning at 8 p.m. Friday evening includes activities and a meet-and-greet gallery stroll featuring some of digital artist finalists, who will be on hand to answer questions and discuss their work on display. The excitement continues on Saturday with the live festival exhibit lighting up Alys Beach beginning at 8:30 p.m. and ending with the must-not-miss poolside party of the season at Caliza Pool, featuring music and video mixing by DJs and VJs, light bites and cash bars.

All access weekend passes are available for $200 per person and includes admission to the event on all three days, an official Digital Graffiti event t-shirt and Tervis tumbler. Tickets for Friday night are $50 per person for adults and $20 for children (12 and under). Tickets for Saturday are $75 (for adults and children). VIP patron tickets are $100 and include an official Digital Graffiti t-shirt and a refillable Tervis tumbler. Proceeds to benefit The Alys Foundation, which supports select local charities.

Tickets are limited; pre-purchased tickets are highly encouraged. Tickets will be available for purchase online beginning March 24, 2014 at digitalgraffiti.com and in person at the Alys Beach Bike Shop, The Alys Shoppe and Fonville Press in Alys Beach. Digital Graffiti will be presented rain or shine.

Come for the festival and enjoy all South Walton has to offer all along Scenic Highway 30A. Luxurious multi-bedroom homes are available for vacation rental in Alys Beach. For details and rates visit alysbeach.com or call toll-free to 1(866) 732-9276.

Staging Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach gives artists a large-scale canvas to explore the intersections of art and architecture, while creating entirely new art forms. Once darkness falls on the weekend, the town will be set aglow as artists compete for  $10,000 in cash prizes. A panel of judges will select five award winners including Best of Show; Best in Florida; Curator’s Choice; and three Honorable Mentions.

In just a few short years Digital Graffiti has become irrevocably linked to Alys Beach. “Watching our beautiful, stark, white washed walls and roofs become completely transformed by the colorful and evocative swirling pieces of digital art is truly an inspiring experience, says town architect Marieanne Khoury-Vogt. “The projected vivid images that mold and melt against the backdrop of our sculptural architecture are fascinating to observe.”

Alys Beach and its groundbreaking event, Digital Graffiti (DG), has led the way for the past seven years in bringing art and culture to the South Walton community and Scenic Highway 30A by providing a venue and reason for digital artists to showcase their one-of-a-kind works. For the second year, four digital artists will converge at Alys Beach to participate in a five-day residency, working in the space where their art may be chosen for projection during the seventh annual Digital Graffiti Festival. The public will have the opportunity to interact with these artists during the residency and get a glimpse into their creative processes.

During the DG2014 Visiting Artist Series, previous DG finalists will reside under one roof and work with DG Curator Brett Phares to create site-specific work for inclusion in the 2014 Digital Graffiti Festival on June 6-7. The artists include Amber Bushnell of Missoula, Montana, Dmitry Kmelnitsky of Los Angeles, California, David Montgomery of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Richard Kroehling of New York, New York.

“Time for a refresh of what we know works at DG while delivering on new ways to see the intersection of art, technology, and architecture. Our visiting artist series opens up the conversation of what makes great projected art, where it’s going, what it looks like,” says Brett Phares, Digital Graffiti Curator. “For 2014, we want more site-responsive work at Alys Beach, more color, more verve, and this year’s group of visiting artists will help us get there.”

The workshop series is complimentary and open to the public on Friday, January 24 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Alys Beach Community Center on 60 McGee Drive. During this two-hour workshop, participants will have the opportunity for discussion with the artists in residence as well as a question-and-answer session. For additional information, please email events@alysbeach.com.

CALIZA GOES PINK AND JOINS THE FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Special event and five course dinner to benefit Sacred Heart and Susan G. Komen Foundation

ALYS BEACH, FL.–Sept. 24, 2013–In an effort to support the fight against breast cancer, Alys Beach and Chef de Cuisine Kevin Korman will host Caliza Goes Pink, Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013 at Caliza Restaurant. The special evening will feature a unique menu that includes cancer-fighting ingredients.

The intimate poolside event will incorporate pink decor in recognition of national breast cancer awareness month.
