Alys Beach is a New Urban community combining the harmonious forms of Bermudan architecture with the gracious character of courtyard living. The vision for Alys Beach embraces a commitment to architectural excellence and a deep respect for the natural environment.
Designed to withstand the strongest hurricanes and last for generations, the homes at Alys Beach are built to meet the highest standards of the Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), and as such will be certified as the first Fortified community in the U.S. Walls are solid concrete and masonry, roofs are grouted cement tile, and windows and doors exceed the requirements of the Florida Building Code for hurricane resistance. In this regard, as well as others, it is a groundbreaking model for sustainable building.
There are three residential house types: the courtyard home, the compound, and the villa. The villas are the most typical, freestanding on their lot with yards all around. The courtyard homes and compounds are more special. Built to the edges of the lot, these types are organized around a private central courtyard, with outdoor galleries, terraces, gardens, fountains and pools. The courtyard home completely encloses its court while the compound, on a much larger lot, is comprised of multiple smaller pavilion buildings connected by loggias and garden walls.
The interiors of Alys Beach homes embrace a modern, seaside aesthetic – open, whitewashed spaces highlighted by the textures and colors of natural, local materials- limestone floors, antique cypress beams and doors, and brightly patterned cement tiles.
