Turtle Bale Green provides a welcoming western access to the beach and is named in honor of the sea turtles that return to nest along Gulf coast beaches every summer. In fact, the park’s central feature is a convex mound of turfgrass, evocative of a turtle’s shell.
Arriving along the pedestrian path, a low fountain edged by smooth limestone creates a delightful water feature that helps to keep an open view toward the beach. Anchored by two large urns planted with sago palm and connected by fine shellstone pavers, the two bathhouses are set low in the ground to maintain the vista of dune and sky.
