One of the most endearing qualities of Alys Beach is that everything you need (or want) is just a bike ride away. With the Alys Beach Bike Shop, a two-, three- or four-wheeled mode of transportation is always within reach.
With a fleet of approximately 200 bikes, ranging from coastal cruisers for adults to beach cruisers and bikes for children, Alys Beach Bike Shop will get you fitted for the perfect size ride. For little tykes, there are bikes with training wheels as well as trail-behind cycles and two-seater trailers. For families who want to ride together, the Surrey lets you ride in style. The fun, four-wheel cycle features bench seating, dual dash drink holders, a horn, side-view mirrors and a roof, providing protection from the elements.
The town’s New Urbanism design includes narrow streets and pedestrian paths that are ideal for biking. Alys Beach’s 20-acre nature preserve features a 1,800-foot winding path that also provides cyclists access to diverse ecosystems, including sandhills, longleaf pine flatwoods, and marshes, where birds, butterflies, and carnivorous pitcher plants make their home.
A 19-mile paved bike path meanders the length of Highway 30A, affording bikers spectacular views of native species as well as South Walton’s rare coastal dune lakes, including Camp Creek Lake to the west of Alys Beach. A leisurely bike ride to the west also provides cyclists access to Point Washington State Forest as well as Deer Lake State Park. A short ride to the east of Alys Beach reveals galleries, award-winning eateries, and locally owned shops filled with coastal treasures.
The bike shop is located near the popular George’s Restaurant next to the Amphitheatre buildings and houses the recreation department, which oversees Alys Beach programs, including tennis, summer camps, and nature tours. During season, guests may also rent YOLO Boards (stand-up paddle boards) and kayaks to venture offshore for the chance to see a playful dolphin or a loggerhead sea turtle.
The bike shop also includes a retail store stocked with bike accessories and essentials such as sunglasses, sunscreen, water and other beverages, as well as exclusive Alys Beach merchandise, including shirts, hats, canteens, and more.
The Alys Beach Bike Shop is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 850.213.5599 to reach the Bike Shop.
