Recapping the Digital Graffiti 2016 Artist Residency

artists at red bar (2)

We sat down with, Digital Graffiti Curator, Brett Phares and this is what he had to say about this year's artist residency:

What a refreshing time at Alys Beach! With temps ranging from 29F to 68F…maybe too refreshing?

Nah, this year’s three artists (Keaton Fox from Detroit (MI-US), Sean Capone from Brooklyn (NY-US) and Yandell Walton from Melbourne VIC-AUS) didn’t let the chill slow them down, diving into their work and witnessing first hand how the different architectural details at Alys Beach enhance, change and open up ways of seeing their own art.

It was a great group, and they played together nicely. Had a great confab outside Neat on Saturday night, swapping art on the wall, and discussing the impulses behind them. Wrapping up their 7-day stay, each artist presented their results on their chosen location, along with some surprise expansions for this year’s 9th event in May (some of you may have even caught the water tower grinning).

The artist series at Alys Beach began as a way to generate art tailored to the place, to provide confidence going into the larger event, and to produce some buzz. Yandell, Sean and Keaton did just that. Proof to be seen in May. Catch you then.
