Caliza Goes Pink – Alys Beach

ALYS BEACH, Fla.--Oct. 25, 2012--In an effort to support the fight against breast cancer and to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research , Alys Beach and Executive Chef Kevin Korman hosted Caliza Goes Pink earlier this month at Caliza Pool & Restaurant in Alys Beach. Proceeds generated from the special evening were nearly $7500, which will be donated to the Sacred Heart Cancer Center Emerald Coast Services and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"This year was an amazing success," said Caliza Restaurant Executive Chef Kevin Korman. "We surpassed our fundraising goal and the event far exceeded my expectations. The team's execution of the event was remarkable. The ambiance that was created by the lighting and décor was nothing short of stunning."

Event organizers hoped the event would be educational as well. Chef Korman created a menu that showcased the importance of incorporating cancer fighting foods into a healthy diet. While special guest speaker, Lisa Burwell, VIE co-owner and breast cancer survivor, shared heartfelt stories of her experience with the disease and strides that are being made to find a cure.

"I think that all of the little details that were planned, such as the 'one in eight pink napkins' and the importance of eating cancer fighting foods, hit the mark to make an impact of the seriousness of the disease while still keeping the event light hearted and enjoyable," added Chef Korman. "Overall I couldn’t be happier with the results and I hope that word will spread so that next year the event will be at the top of everyone’s list."

The second annual Caliza Goes Pink nearly doubled the $4,000 goal, which was raised in 2011. Proceeds will be divided among the Sacred Heart Cancer Center Emerald Coast Services and Susan G Komen Foundation (Maryland affiliate).
