Grammy® Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter Nanci Griffith Performs with Sinfonia Gulf Coast

Alys Beach is now part of the Beaches of South Walton. The Beaches of South Walton are home to the birthplace of New Urbanism and every beach that is part of The Beaches of South Walton along Florida's Gulf Coast is certified as a "Blue Wave" beach by the Clean Beaches Council.

A new judge has been added to the "Digital Graffiti" art competition at Alys Beach. Lucia Fishburne, Florida’s State Film Commissioner, is set to judge entries on Saturday, August 30th. Fishburne is responsible as Florida’s State Film Commissioner for leading Florida's efforts to build, expand and retain the film, TV and digital media entertainment sector.

Photographer Eric Marcus will grace Fonville Press with his presence July 11th from 5pm until 7pm. There the architectural and fine art photographer will debut, discuss and sign his new book, “Alligator Lake.” The beautiful new book is described as “a tribute to one of South Walton's coastal dune lakes.”

Children's author Grady Thrasher is set to visit the Fonville Press on Tuesday, July 1st. There he'll read from his newly released children’s book, “Tim and Sally’s Beach Adventure.” The book takes kids through the beach adventure of a brother and sister team. The illustrations are by Elaine Hearn Rabon, who will also be on hand to inspire youngsters.

Alys Beach will hold an all-day beach bash on Saturday. May 24th, beginning at 9 a.m. "Piper's Beach Bash" is free and open to the public and will last into the night. Activities include coastal kayak tours, courtyard home tours, live music, beach volleyball and a beach bouncer wet slide.

The popular coffee shop, newsstand and wine bar known as Fonville Press will host a free workshop for children to teach the fine art of flute-playing on Thursday, May 1st from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. Led by composer, recording artist and “multi-instrumentalist” James Wisniewski of “wZ” (www.jimmiwz.com), the workshop will give children a chance to see instruments from all around the world.

The Discovery Channel is bringing "The World's Greenest Homes," to Alys Beach this week to film an episode. In the series, Alys Beach will be showcased alongside homes in Mexico, Tasmania, England, Canada and even an Australia tree house. The series seeks to show people living their lives in ecologically sustainable ways through things like green building practices.

Alys Beach is planning a new residential development Inlet Beach, in Lupin Beach. The seven-acre property is located just west of Camp Helen State Park. Jason Comer, Alys Beach's Town Founder will develop the property. The Lupin Beach name comes from the name of the home Comer stayed in on the property as a child.

It will be developed by Jason Comer, Alys Beach’s Town Founder. He's had the property in his family since 1968, and the name of the one family home still standing is Lupin.

Alys Beach will host "Movie Night" on Friday, February 1st at 7 p.m. The free event is open to the public. This is the first of hopefully many more. The first feature will be the 1993 hit film, "Groundhog Day." The movie will be shown on Fonville Green, adjacent to Fonville Press, a popular coffee shop, newsstand and wine bar in Alys Beach.

An Alys Beach courtyard home won for a major in this year's "American Institute of Architects/Chicago Design Awards" program. Designed by Doug Farr of Chicago's Farr Associates, the 2,400 square-foot home received the AIA Chicago Design Excellence Award for Environmental Sustainability. Some of the winning features were insulated concrete walls, geothermal heating and cooling, a shaded arcade, central courtyard, and shaded outdoor kitchen.

Full-service architecture-construction firm Dencity is now the first outside architecture-construction team approved for Alys Beach. The Atlanta based firm was established in 2000 and is gaining a reputation as one of the hottest architectural firms in Atlanta. The plan is for Dencity to create a series of coastal projects that will be immune to national housing conditions.
