Alys Beach, Florida – (December 31, 2008) – Locals and visitors are invited to enjoy another free tour of the Heavens, courtesy of Alys Beach.
"A Night of Star Gazing" will be held on Friday, January 9th. The fun and educational evening will again be guided by Alan Knothe, former astronomy instructor for Northwest Florida State College.
"Alan will start by discussing the life-cycle of a star, including how stars are formed, the stages that they go through and what happens after they burn-out," said Kelli Arnold, Events Coordinator for Alys Beach.
The star-gazing tour will last from 6pm until 8pm and will begin at Fonville Press, a coffee shop, newsstand and wine bar located in Alys Beach directly on Scenic 30A. Knothe's initial presentation at Fonville Press will last about an hour.
"We'll then walk along the beach, as Alan points out interesting stars, constellations, planets and other astronomical facts," said Arnold. In the event of cloudy or overcast weather conditions, the presentation will still be held at Fonville Press, but the star gazing will be replaced by a walk on the beach during which Knothe will use landmarks to help illustrate the immense scale of our solar system.
This free family-friendly event is open to the public. For more information, please call 1-866-481-8387 or email events@alysbeach.com.
