Alys Beach, FL – (January 22, 2008) – Alys Beach announced today that it is planning a new residential development in Inlet Beach, tentatively called Lupin Beach. The seven-acre property, located just west of Camp Helen State Park, will be developed by Jason Comer, Alys Beach’s Town Founder.

"Our family had the great fortune of owning this property as far back as 1968, when Inlet Beach barely had six or seven homes," said Comer. "We spent the summers here, often without another soul in sight. My father was CEO of Avondale Mills, which owned Camp Helen at the time, and it was used as a summer retreat for Avondale employees. My grandfather owned three homes on this property, one of which is still standing today. That home is called Lupin."

Comer said that he plans to work extensively with neighbors, local officials and members of the community to ensure that the new development will be an asset to the area, while preserving the beauty of South Walton's natural habitat. Work has already begun on a plan for restoration and enhancement of the property's dune system.

"We’re setting up a community advisory panel that will meet in early 2008, followed by more meetings that will be open to the general public," said Comer. "We will also be contacting neighboring property owners to discuss our plans in greater detail." All these meetings will take place prior to the filing of a zoning application with the County.

Lupin Beach will be designed by the award-winning town planning firm Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (www.DPZ.com). The plans call for a combination of upscale private residences and condominiums, similar to the mix of housing types in the surrounding area. The project will not include any businesses or commercial uses.

"Because of the importance of this property to my family, I'm very pleased that I'll be the one to oversee its development," said Comer. "Over the years, so many others have discovered our amazing natural environment, and as a result, Walton County has experienced enormous change. Just like we did with Alys Beach, we want to open our planning process to the wider community so that we can put together the most thoughtful and intelligent development plan."
